Overview

This national event not only involves your decision making skills, but also incorporates negotiation,trickery and presence of mind to develop a company worth reckoning. There are multiple aspects at play here, including the temperament of the other participants, valuation of assets and marketing above market standards, all in the quest to birth an industry redefining business model to get ahead of the competition. Teams of up to 4 battle it out in a showcase of talent, skill and above all, their nerves to emerge as one who can truly lead effectively and bring to the forefront their capabilities that are mercilessly tested in the real-world corporate environment.

In SuitUp we also include a real-world mimicking market which is represented by the algorithm used to calculate the company’s holdings at the end of every step that gets them closer to the end, which adds an extra dimension of realism in the game.

Manager's Dilemma

Managers Dilemma is a Case Study event conducted by CEL-BPHC. This event allows participants to apply managerial concepts to solve real-life problems in operations field. It takes the participants through gruelling rounds of quiz, testing them in areas of current business affairs, management strategy, and general knowledge and scrupulously allows you to go beyond the text of the case and lets you use your creative and case solving skills to the maximum.

RULES

  1. The event is going to last for around 2 hours.
  2. Teams of 3-5 can participate
  3. You are expected to reach the event venue at least 15 mins prior to the start of the event.
  4. Organizers are not responsible for any loss of property or delay during the event.
  5. The judges’ decision will be final and binding on all.
  6. The quiz will be set by a panel of professors from various departments
  7. The results declared by the organising team will be final and no request for reconsideration will be entertained.

Round 1- A business quiz to judge the knowledge of the participating teams in the various sectors, current affairs, recent valuations and general knowledge.

Round 2- A case study will be provided to the teams that qualify the quiz. The teams have to carefully study the given case and make conclusions. The teams have to OPTIMISE the given problem statement so that the best results are obtained. This would involve a little knowledge of optimisation (maths).

Round 3- A discussion round where all the teams have to present the case study to the judges and the other teams. They have to present as to how they optimised the given problem statement. The other teams have a chance to ask the presenting team questions. Marks will be awarded for both .


Winner: Teams with the maximum score as judged by the panel will win the event.

Prize: Prizes worth 10k at stake.

CASE STUDY

Case Study

General Instructions

The case study shall be based upon two supporting documents, first the outline of the case describing the past and present situation of the firm and its market presence and all the international happenings that may have some impact on the business of the firm, secondly a document containing the financial record of the firm with all expences, incomes, investments, assets and liquidity of the firm. The response to the report should be a response to a question with respect to certain expansion or investment plans for the firm in the near future.

Rules:

  • Anyone can enrol into the competition by filling the google sheet. (the case studies would be emailed to them)
  • The participants could be individuals or a team of three.

Rounds:

  • The first round will have submission of the report based on the documents provided to the participant.
  • The second round will have submission of a 3min video introduction to the approach of the shortlisted participant from round 1.
  • The third and final round will have participants presenting their findings in a 15min presentation in front of judges.
  • The scoring of the final round will be based on the quality of report, presentation skills, team coordination and responses given to questions which shall begin after the presentation.

GROUND REALITY

Ground Reality

Overview

It takes more than a good idea to be an entrepreneur. An unwavering passion, open-mindedness, daring, indomitability, spunk and persistence are a few qualities that distinguish a successful entrepreneur.

Ground reality is the annual startup challenge and entrepreneurship conclave organized by Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (CEL) - BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus, to promote innovative startups within and outside the campus. The event is targeted to encourage entrepreneurship and bridge the gap between market, industry and students, to bring entrepreneurs to the forefront of the masses.

Rules

Entry in Ground Reality will be on rolling basis. The scrutiny will be done by the panel of judges based on the description of the startup, team members and other short info given by the participants.

The selected startups will be mentored for 2-4 months after which they will have to submit a video pitch and a pitch deck. The best of the entries will enter the final round.

This will be the pitching round in front of the judges. The startups will have to make a progress report of the entire work done since the time they took part in Ground Reality, business model canvas and pitch their complete idea in front of the judges.

All applicants will be invited to attend the networking sessions during ATMOS'16 by VCs/angel investors where the results of the first rolling round would be declared. Few startup will be selected in the networking session and will be given basic working captial based on their networking skills.

The final round will be held during the e-summit'17. Over the entire period, the startups will be mentored and guided by successful entrepreneurs/mentors/VCs so as to imbibe maximum knowledge about the startup ecosystem.

THE COURT ROOM

Event Description

  • Register in teams of two.
  • A case study will be provided 2 days prior to the competition.
  • Topic yet to be finalized.
  • Role of Plaintiff: Put up relevant arguments against the concerned firm.
    Role of Defendant: Defend its maneuver, supported by relevant arguments.
  • The next day, teams choose to be the defendant or the plaintiff, entirely based on first cum first basis.

Format Of Debate

  • Each contestant speaks for 2 minutes at most (minimum 1 minute), giving the whole set 16 minutes.
  • Followed by a Cross Questioning session between the two teams lasting 4 minutes.
  • Followed by a Question Answer session with the audience lasting 2 minutes.

Judging Criteria

  • Speaking Skills
  • Argument relevance
  • Spontaneity
  • Body Language
  • Marks to be deducted for a speech less than one minute.
  • The ability of the team members to merge their content(continuity and    consistency of arguments).
  • Marks to be deducted for excessive redundancy.
  • Cross-questioning Ethics .
